Brian Neal

Brian Neal was an established artist when moved from Sydney to Batemans Bay 17 years ago.

He found his interest in pastel painting really grew, inspired by the evocative natural beauty and colours of the South Coast. This has led to a true passion for the medium, and success as a selling and commissioned artist within Australia and overseas.

Lessons with renowned pastel artist Grace Paleg stretched his creative abilities as he built a growing reputation as a key member of our dynamic artistic community.

His artistic endeavours actually began as an eight-year-old in his native England. National art programs were in place to help children make sense of the war. Brian won a national prize for designing a war poster – it was printed, and is now kept at the British Museum.

Brian is active in local art groups including as a committee member of the South Coast Pastel Society. He participates in some 10 exhibitions throughout Australia each year.

Over his time as an artist Brian has won many awards including the Chris Vardon Portraiture Prize which led to other portrait commissions.

His native bird series, popular lighthouse paintings, colourful nudes and his moonglow series also keep him very active.
